How much are you worth?
My mission in authoring this blog is to inspire you to discover yourself and create your own personal success. In this particularly article, I want to motivate you to free your consciousness from the trappings of materialism and realize your true worth. At the end of the day, it’s all about self discovery.
Interesting observation
In recent months, there’s been a spate of kidnappings and demands for ransom here in Nigeria. This situation is primarily due to the frustrations of the people in the Niger Delta region of our country. They feel that the benefits they get from the Federal Government and Oil Companies are not worth the degradation of their environment. Consequently, in other to express this frustration and anger, they formed militant groups who began to kidnap foreign nationals working in those regions.
Unfortunately, as the government clamped down on the militants, the spate of kidnappings escalated into other areas. These militants, and other crooks taking a cue from them, began to carry out kidnappings for purely monetary motivations. They would kidnap someone (usually a person with high and wealthy connections) then demand that the family of such individuals pay a ransom to have them back. My hope is that this sordid state of affairs will soon come to an end. I also pray to God daily that He will rescue innocent men and women in this nation from the snares of evil people.
Nevertheless, in the course of these kidnapping activities, I observed that the amount of money demanded by the kidnappers was normally a function of their estimate of the worth of the person held captive visavis the financial capacity of the redeemer; in other words, how much the redeemer is able and willing to pay to recover the person. On this basis, kidnappers have demanded as high as $400000 and as low as $8000.
So a ransom of say, $400000, represents the monetary value of a captive from the perspective of his kidnappers. In this sense, the value of the individual becomes a function of the cost of his or her redemption.
Yet, can a person’s worth be calculated in terms of money? Is it possible to evaluate the value of an individual on the basis of financial and material considerations?
Well, I happen not to think so.
Human beings are yet to realize the worth of human beings
When Jesus asked the questions,
“…what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Mark 8:36,37
He underscored the invaluable worth of the human being. In other words, if it were possible to place all the wealth and resources of this entire universe on a scale in comparison to you, your intrinsic worth will outweigh them all!
Sadly, human beings are yet to realize the worth of human beings.
The level of man’s inhumanity to man that we witness daily in our world is proof of the low value we place on our lives. Abuses, wars, killings, and their likes will cease the moment we become aware of the true worth of the human being.
There are things you would never do to yourself and others had you known your true worth. You would treat yourself and others with greater respect and honor if you had an understanding of who you are. All kinds of self-abuse will stop the moment you come to terms with your true value. This is an aspect of my motive in constantly challenging you in this blog to discover yourself.
This inability to discern the true worth of an individual is a function of spiritual blindness. The bulk of human consciousness is still trapped at the materialistic plane.
This is why, even in the 21st Century, we still rate people on the basis of numbers, tangible and visible realities – things that at their very best are mere shadows of reality. People are still measured on the basis of illusions like:
-
Assets in stock and so on,
-
Real estate possessions,
-
Twitter followers
, -
Cash flow,
-
etc.
Can anyone help me understand why human consciousness is still bound to the materialistic plane?
How much are you worth?
Normally, several factors determine the value of anything, such as:
- Potential -what it can do.
- Relevance – the kind of problems that it can solve.
- Price – what people are willing to pay for it.
- Relationships – what it’s connected to, or who owns it (eg artworks by Picasso)
- Nature – the very nature of something can exude beauty and glory (eg, gold, and diamonds).
I believe that your worth is a function of who you are. You are valuable, just because you are! Your very nature, potential, and divine design establishes your worth without the need for external additions. In other words, whether you are a tramp, prison inmate, drug addict, alcoholic, divorced, rich, or poor, the value of your soul is greater than that of the entire material universe put together! All you need to do is to discover yourself!
This blog is about self-discovery: I challenge people here to ‘discover yourself’. When you dig through this blog and read in between the lines, you will discover that my answer to the question, “Who am I?” is this, “Ye are gods!”
The worth of the human soul is immeasurable, and this is essentially due to the divinity of humanity – man is an offspring of God. Ye are gods!
Of course, I’ve been criticized for this position; but that’s only another evidence of our level of ignorance regarding who we are, and the true worth of a human soul.
I believe that the truth of man’s divinity is too potent and heavy for most minds to swallow – particularly those that have been weakened and impoverished by religious brainwashing. Yet the moment you experience that shift in awareness and embrace your divinity, you recreate your realities and alter your earthly experiences and manifestations.
Your worth is absolutely incalculable!
The Holy Bible – Christianity’s sacred book – tells the story of man’s redemption. In a nutshell, mankind became estranged from His Creator as a result of disobedience and fell prey to the cosmic arch-terrorist, Satan. As always happens in such cases, there was a ransom to be paid in order to recover the man.
In order to redeem man, God had to sacrifice His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, who was perfect and sinless. Jesus Christ had to shed His blood in a painful and shameful death in order to redeem humanity.
Each time I think of this, it fills my heart and my eyes with tears. This is because, I realize the value of man from God’s point of view. It means that my true worth is the life of God Himself – since that’s what it took to redeem me from captivity!
When I relate the interesting observation I shared with you at the beginning of this article, with the Bible’s account of man’s redemption, I cannot help but appreciate the invaluable worth of humanity! After all, the price on his head was the life of God’s only begotten son!
My value is incalculable.
Your worth is absolutely incalculable.
Your value is higher than the value of the entire material universe because you are worth the life of God Himself! Discover yourself!
