@Robin Thanks for your encouraging words. I know you do appreciate the subject of this post a great deal as I also was intrigued by some of your writings...

@NoEasyAnswers You are so welcome to 'Discover Yourself'. Our disagreements is obviously hinged on our definitions of religion. I tend to make a distinction between 'religion' and 'organized religion', what I call 'religious uniformities.' People will always be 'religious', what you prefer to call 'secularism' or 'personal beliefs/religions' - because I personally define religion as a way of life. Thanks for your comments

This is a very intriguing and thought provoking article. I do disagree with a few of your thoughts, although I believe these are based on individual experiences (or religions). I disagree that humanity will always be religious. I believe we're at a crossroads in religion where people can either choose to meld religion with secularism and create something stronger or where people can choose to abandon organized religion and hold to personal beliefs, religious or secular. In the last decade, we've seen the number of agnostics and atheists grow around the world. With this, I also disagree that the current generation is very religious, as the number of people believing in organized religion if any shrinks as the age group get younger.

But none the less, a very thought provoking article.

You are absolutely brilliant. You are walking a truly great path. And in your time you will be a wise leader of your people. You already are. Just keep listening to that beautiful knowing heart of yours. You already know. I am proud to call you friend. And you do NOT stand alone. There are many who hear you and completely understand. I am one of them. You have made my world more real by expressing these thoughts. Thank you from my heart. Robin

@Stephanie The decision to love and be a source of help and inspiration is an expression of the divinity within you...because God is love. Love remains the essence of any true religion..it remains the greatest.

@Iyabo According to the bible, there is true religion, and there is false religion. So religion is not really the problem, it's man's ignorance that creates what I call religious uniformities and takes away the mystery of God, as you rightly pointed out.
James 1:27 tells us that "Religion that God our FAther accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." It's just as @Stephanie commented, love is the essence...

@Donna Thank you for your heartfelt prayer. :) I respond with a very loud and strong AMEN! God bless you.

@Maureen We are all essentially religious... religion is an integral part of human nature; it is after all 'a way of life.' As such, everyone has their 'way of life'... IMO, the problem is with 'organized religion', what I call 'religious uniformities' which occurs when men with low spiritual awareness try to impose their personal perspectives on the masses. I agree with you that true religion for anyone can only be rooted in one's own inner awareness of divine realities, and not in man-made traditions.
I pray that professed followers of Jesus will grow into the fullness of His stature and love humanity as He did while He was on earth.

*picks jaw up off floor after reading this post*

As far as I'm concerned there's too much religion in this world, and not enough spirituality. There's a world of difference between the two. Religion demands submission to outside authority, whereas spirituality is about following your own inner authority. You won't find your inner authority in any creed, dogma, sect, holy book, or anything else man made. The only place you'll find it is in your own heart.

On another note, it never ceases to amaze me how so many who claim to be Christians love to proclaim that everyone whose beliefs fall outside of their own narrow-minded beliefs concerning what Christianity is about is doomed to perdition. Jesus excluded no one from the kingdom of God, including Samaritans, whom the Jews of that time utterly despised as the most unclean of the unclean. He taught that everyone is to be included in the kingdom of God, and took on a tax collector, even though tax collectors were also despised by the Jews of his day, as one of his apostles.

The utter hypocrisy of many who call themselves followers of Christ never ceases to amaze me.

My dear brother, you have just echoed the very sentiments that have been resonated within me. I am so tired of the "ain't He alright" sermon that does nothing to convert the soul as well as the pagentry and theater that church seems to have become. Since when did everybody become a motivational speaker?? How can they hear without a preacher? God is real. Jesus Christ is Lord. The Holy Spirit is real, and I trust that He will lead us into the Truth. Only God can lead us if we are willing to be lead.
"Dear Heavenly Father, I ask that you give us eyes to see and ears to hear what thus saith the LORD. Jesus said 'My sheep hear my voice and another they will not follow' and so we thank you. Father I ask that you send laborers into the fields to gather Your harvest. Thank you Lord for salvation and redemption and for Your blood that cleanses us. Please forgive us for our sins and for our apathy; remove it from us; give us a clean heart, renew a right spirit within us. In Jesus' name we pray. AMEN"

My dear Pastor, what a great post. I am grateful for your mind and passion for sharing all of this information.

I see religion as taking away the mystery of God and giving rules and regulations as to how to encounter and experience God. Spirituality keeps the mystery of God intact and reveals that there is so much that we do not know.

I agree with your post. I am a Christian who grew up in an atheist home. However, I have experienced many non-traditional christian experiences that I cannot explain, yet I know God was in it.

Thank you for your insightful post.

God Bless

I have struggled with these issues. In my quest to find where I fit in, going to many churches, I have observed some congregations that truly open up and let the spirit move through them and then the others....that try to control the entire congregation with man-made rules and much judgment towards others. Who are we to judge? If I see someone struggling do I throw them to the side because they "did this" or "said that" (didn't follow the "rules")...or do I love them and try to be there as a source of help and inspiration? I've made my choice...to help in any way that I can.

The church where I now attend shares my vision and I think I found my place. :)
