WD Stories 2

This entry is part 2 of 5 in the series WD Stories

<<<continued from here<<<

. . .  Tracy coined our group of four girlfriends with ‘Girls Club’.
It wasn’t the first time that I had called a surprise Girls Club meeting at Starbucks, which was a signal to them that Shileen was up to something.

As we sat around the table with our favourite lattes, I had 3 sets of eyeballs staring at me. I tried to make small talk but they quickly dismissed the chitchat and excitedly told me to get on with it.
So what could I do but proceed.

All I can remember is nervously asking them ‘what if’ questions.
What if we could impact women’s lives here in Pittsburgh? What if we could impact women’s lives from all over Pennsylvania and from all over the United States? What if we could impact women’s lives from all over the world? And then the zinger … what if we could bring in a pastor from Nigeria who has a powerful message for women as the speaker? From that point I began to share about WD, who he was, his ministry, and how he had impacted my life.

To my great surprise they just kept answering yes to all of my “what if” questions. The further I went with it the more excited we all became. Clearly God was calling all four of us to a great mission. Still, though, none of us had any idea what we were really saying ‘yes’ to.

One phone call

The next step in this journey was to connect the Girls Club with WD. We decided the best way to accomplish this was to have a conference call. Talk about being nervous! Yes, even that took a step of faith and courage for me because I was thinking that my girls could still very well think I had lost my mind. What would they think? Would they like WD? Would they understand his message? Would they be impacted by the message they would receive on that call?

Well my girlfriends were impacted … we were all impacted … and what an understatement!
Our conference phone call was incredibly powerful for all five of us, including WD.
That one phone call set an entire movement in motion – we didn’t know it at the time but hindsight tells me it is so.

God is amazing! You know you are right in the middle of God’s will if what you are facing is gigantic … is so much bigger than you. We were running on pure excitement in the beginning but it didn’t take long before Becky, Danette, and Tracy’s personal growth journeys began. Mine was already well established but even my own journey was turned up a notch or two.

God had something much more…

We all began to grow by leaps and bounds while in the middle of planning Pittsburgh Woman Discover Yourself Conference ’09.
As WD coached us, sometimes it felt like more of our attention was on our personal and spiritual growth than the conference, but it was necessary.
God had and still has enormous plans for us girls that require serious training.
And don’t think for a minute that WD has not been challenged in his own journey throughout this process. Oh the stories I could tell!

Remember, we had said yes to a women’s conference. Oh but God had something much more in store for us.
As we journeyed towards this conference, it took twists and turns that could have shut us down, but instead launched us deeper into the mysterious plans of our God because we continually submitted to Him each step of the way.

It’s amazing how God can prepare us if only we are tuned in and listening.
There was a shift that was beginning to take place that was a small but important piece to a major speed bump up ahead in the road.

How would that speed bump impact our mission, and were we tuned in enough to hear God’s direction?
Were we all willing to submit to the new path awaiting us?
