Ye are gods

Hot seat!

In the course of delivering a sermon recently in the church that I pastor, I made the statement, ‘ye are gods.’ When we came back that afternoon after the service, my 8yr old daughter asked me, “Daddy, we are human beings, not gods! How can you say that we are gods? What do you mean?”

I was delighted to know that my sweet 8yr old was listening to my sermons! I was also proud of her for having the intelligence and courage to confront me over an issue I raised during a sermon. But I was momentarily at a loss on how to explain such a profound idea to her. How do I explain to an 8yr old that human beings are gods? Whatever explanations I give must be both credible and simple.

Fortunately, the right thought hit my mind at that very moment – a fundamental concept that even she unquestioningly accepts. That concept is the fact that we are the children of God.

So I asked her, “Do you believe that we are children of God?”
“Yes,” she replied.”
“Good!” I said, “now let me ask you some questions.”
With that I proceeded to ask her several questions to which she gave the right answers.
“When a rabbit gives birth, what’s it that it gives birth to?” I asked, “a rabbit,” she answered.
“When a monkey gives birth, what’s that that is born?” I asked again, and again she replied, “a monkey.”
I asked the same question about a goat and a human being and she replied accurately.
“Well, my daughter,” I continued, hoping that the final question will do the job, “when a God gives birth, what’s supposed to be born?” To my relief, she answered, “a god.”
Like someone who had just won a jackpot, I proceeded to make my point to my girl, “If we are the children of God, then we have the nature of God, and that means that we are gods. Do you understand?”
“Yes daddy,” she smiled and ran off!

Ye are gods

Now, come to think of it, I didn’t really manufacture the concept of humans being gods; its a biblical and godly concept.

“Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said ye are gods’?…” ~ Jesus Christ, John 10:35

According to the bible, human beings are created in the image of God. This is something lots of people know but never actually get to ponder over.

If mankind is created in the image of God, then you and I are partakers of the divine nature. That means that we have the potential and capacity to manifest the attributes and powers of God as daily realities in time and space. I know this idea might be too much for some folks to take in to their minds, particularly when you’ve been programmed to look down on yourself, to think of yourself as worthless, and to think of yourself as fortunate enough to merely exist and so just manage to get by.
Nevertheless, it is still true that ‘ye are gods.’

Discover yourself

The purpose of this blog is to inspire you to discover yourself, and one of the most basic elements of your identity is your divinity!
Ye are gods!
Discover yourself!
Be inspired!

Discover yourself and have the courage to embrace all of the potentials and possibilities of your being.
Ye are gods!

Creativity

The most basic attribute of a god is creativity – the capacity to manifest reality out of apparent nothingness. I came to this conclusion after a careful analysis of the timeline of God’s revelation about himself in the Holy Scriptures. The first attribute of God revealed in the Holy Scriptures is that of a Creator.

I find it particularly interesting that before ever God revealed Himself as a Father, Judge, or anything else, He first of all manifested as a Creator.

This is quite significant because it embodies the fact that fundamental to God is the attribute of Creativity.
Creativity – the capacity to manifest reality out of apparent nothingness – is the basic attribute of the divine nature.

Since we are the offsprings of God, and according to Jesus Christ, ‘ye are gods,’ basic to our nature is the capacity to manifest reality out of apparent nothingness! It’s within your divine nature and powers to do this.

In the next parts of this series, I’ll continue to reveal how we can translate this potential into reality in our daily experiences.

Hi Pastor, Before we go any further I would like to ask u a question. Do you believe Jesus is God himself. Not a manifestation or the son of God, but God himself.
Thanks and i WILL look for your answer.

  • Well, I don't want to get too carried away trying to straighten you out - :) - if we share the same essential doctrinal beliefs.

The thing is, I haven't found yours stated on your site. Can you point me to them?

Mine are front and center at http://christiansoldiersonline.org

The articles I have taken a look at here seem seem reflective of WoF and elements of 'the Secret'

  • Brother, I must reach out to you in truth and love and point out your error. I know we're on your turf, but it must be said.

To try and use 'simple logic' to fathom God and His Word is like hunting Elephants with a pea shooter.

    Isaiah 55:

8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.

9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

There is no simple correlation between God -> Son (Jesus) -> Brother (Believers) for Jesus and the Father (and the Holy Spirit) are GOD.

There is one God. Not gods. That was the fatal lie straight from Satan and it is being repeated still - either deliberately or erroneously.

Certainly, if we were created literally in the image of God, with all of His attributes, we would be created perfect and would have no need of salvation, would we?

    Did Christ die in vain?

I submit to you that an image is a reflection of a greater Reality, not the reality itself. The created cannot equal the Creator.

There are many teachings going around, brother, and many have gained popularity.

LDS doctrine, for example, teaches that God was a flesh and blood man and achieved Godhood. They also teach that Jesus and Lucifer are Spirit brothers, both creations themselves. I think we would agree that is not sound doctrine, would we not?

And yet, they maintain that men will attain a level or various levels of godhood, based upon their works.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding your article and you are not saying that we are equal to God?

I wish you well and don't intend to offend, but to edify, perhaps clumsily, but with love and concern for the Truth.

    IHS,

    Bruce

    Hi Pastor.
So if we become or are gods, can we/you/I die and atone for others sin? If we created in the image of GOD then this should be possible no?
  • oops...40 and 41
  • Thanks for the welcome, Pastor.

I hope I do not wear it out!

I do study my Bible well, my brother and I will leave you to ponder Job 41 and 42 and see how we gods measure up.

    :-)

  • Please note that Christ was making reference to Psalm 82:6 which must be taken in that context. The 'gods' were magistrates and vs.7 maintains that they 'shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes'
The Psalmist is pointing to Christ, who shall '8 Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.'

Hence, Christ, in John 10:35, is not validating the notion that men are or can be gods, but, rather affirming that He is God.

The only perfection that we can claim is by and through the shed blood of Jesus Christ.

Remember, it was the serpent hissing in Genesis 3:5 "For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods" that led down the wrong road, necessitating the atoning sacrifice of the only human ever to rightfully claim the title of God.

    Blessings,

    Bruce Macomber
  • My dear friend, I believe this completely. I always have. I think I got it from my father. Regardless, you have expressed this beautifully. And I agree that humans have tended to shy away from such a concept and even go so far as to put themselves down. BUT I believe that when we do that, we put God down, we put down and even desecrate the gifts we are given. We honor our God when we see ourselves as Gods. Thank you for speaking this out so clearly. I loved the analogy you gave your little girl. You won't forget that. Magical and simple, right to point and heart of it. :)
